{poll: what is your favorite shampoo?}

Please help!!
Well, as you can see I like to change my hair every now & then.
Recently it was this:

Then a bit darker:

It has been this:

A couple of years ago:

I posted a recent picture in the tag post a couple of days ago, so you all know what my hair looks like right now, and.....all of this fun happens at a very bad price!  Damaged hair!

I am looking for a nice gentle shampoo for hair that has been colored/highlighted.  I have read terrible things about some of the ingredients in our daily shampoos (as is written in blue below).  Right now I am using the Organix line and while it might be okay for normal hair, I am not satisfied because I don't feel that it is at all moisturizing.  I need major conditioning after using the shampoo just to be able to comb my hair out afterwards.

***Do you have any good recommendations?  What are your favorite shampoos (and conditioners)???

Has anyone tried the ALTERNA White Truffle shampoo that Jennifer Aniston loves???

Here is a guide to how gentle your shampoo is according to the surfactant used:

Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate - very, very, harsh

Ammonium Laureth Sulfate- very harsh but better than the above

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate- better than the above, but still a little harsh

        Sodium Laureth Sulfate-gentle, great pick!

        TEA lauryl Sulfate-good pick

        TEA Laureth Sulfate-good pick

I alternate between Garnier, Aussie, and John Freda Sheer Blonde. I use a bottle of one then move to the next. I feel like all the other ones leave my hair feeling greasy ( which is totally yuck!).

Hi Petunia,
I really love the Fekkai Protein Rx Reparative Shampoo. I tried it last year and it is my favor so far. You can get a good deal buying the Fekkai Protein kit at Bath & Body works and it includes the Shampoo, the Conditioner and the Anti-Breakage Treatment Mask. It smells delicious and leave your hair shine and light:)
I also like to alternate with the Biolage Hydrating Shampoo and my #1 Matrix Biolage Detangling Solution.
Hope thats's help you:)
XoXo

Hi Pet - I like philosophy Shear Splendor and the conditioner but their 3 in 1 shower/bath/shampoos are also fun to use. I am always looking for something new to try.

Your hair is beautiful! As a fellow brunette, I am always looking for the right color and love to change mine often - actually getting highlights today! I just read that Keratase is the best shampoo (InStyle) for color treated hair - I haven't tried it yet but am thinking maybe Sephora?

Hi Petunia!
Thanks for commenting on my blog!
As for shampoo...I use Giovanni which originally I could only get at the Health Food Store/Whole Foods--but now they sell it at Rite Aid and Target!
Anyhoo--I had to get this years back when I discovered I was allergic to "wheat protein" which was virtually in every shampoo out there! This is made with soybean--and I use the whole product line and think it's Fab.! Hope this helps!

I've been an Aveda girl for over 15 years and won't use anything else. I love the entire line and use different products in it depending on the season and my current hair color. Even with color, my hair is in good condition (as good as it can be). Have you looked into what type of color they are using on your hair? That could also be part of the problem.

Love your new highlights. I'm going today for a little refresher :)

I like the Fresh line (fresh.com). I use the Soy shampoo and Pomegranate conditioner, but they have many options depending on your hair.

Kerastase-- above and beyond is the best line I have ever used, and I think I have tried them all. It costs a small fortune but it is worth every penny because you won't be trying and disgarding multiple products. I love the bain satin line (white and orange bottles) and just got hooked on their Apres Soleil 'poo and masque (even though there is no "soliel" where I live yet, brrr). If you order from their website they have promotional three piece kits that include a heat protective styling cream. I would start with the Bain Satin line and I don't think you'll be disappointed. This line has saved my hair! Also, sign up for emails, they have promos and always great free samples!

I look for something that has Coconut Oil in it. I found one from Inecto that is Shampoo and they also have a Conditioner. They are fantastic. Coconut oil make your hair soft smooth and silky.
I have also put coconut oil in my hair for about an hour before I wash it and wrap it up in a towel to let the oil penetrate the hair shafts.
I highlight my hair and all this has helped me. my sister who went through chemo is the one who told me the secret regarding coconut oil. Her hair was like straw when it grew back after the chemo and radiation. She says she loves how her it feels now.

I love Organix but also Pravana's Sulfate Free line is GREAT!!! it's a little more pricey but it's amazing!

I persoanlly use Aveda, because my sister can get it at wholesale. They have a really great deel conditioner that I use a few times a month and the effects have been amazing!

I've also used in the past Halo (ok), Fekkai (overrated, in my opinion), Keristace (wonderful) and Pureology (great!).

Try out that Aveda deep conditioner. I think you'll love it!

Also, I've heard about that Alterna. My friend loves it, but says its pricey!

I agree on the Aveda. That's all I use for everyday wear. They have a color conserve line, and also, if you're hair is feeling uber dry you might try the damage remedy deep reconstructing treatment. I love it!

Your hair looks beautiful!
I am almost through my first bottle of Yes to Carrots and I love it! It's from Israel and you can get it at Target! Paraben free, has organic carrot juice and dead sea minerals, no animal testing, and smells great!
I've also used Aveda in the past and love those too.

Hi Petunia!
I don't have a favorite shampoo (although I'm coveting Louise Galvin Sacred Locks products), but I can recommend a conditioner. My hair is immensely tangle-prone (which is one reason I've cut it short in the past and am slightly hesitant to grow it out, although I'm in the process right now) and I've had great success with Terax. I apply it in the shower and comb it through my hair right there.

If your hair does tangle I'd say stay away from the Fekkai protein shampoo. It made my hair knot up 'dreadfully'.

Oh I have tried so many shampoos in the last year it's not even funny!

My rundown for you:

Phyto- If you want a really gentle shampoo- Phytojoba. The Phytojoba conditioning mask is great too. The only problem with their shampoo is that it doesn't lather much. I really like lather.

I tried Keratase and I hate it. It makes my hair lay flat against my head. I will say it is very moisturizing.

My favorite is Fekkai. I love the Fekkai shampoos and conditioner. The RX line is great for really dry hair.

Second runner up Fresh. I really like the soy shampoo for a good everyday shampoo.

I have been loving Loreal's EverPure line. It has been the best drugstore brand shampoo and conditioner I have used! In fact, I blogged about it today! :)

Have a great day!!

Hi! The shampoo and conditioner that has worked out really well for me is bioinfusion color care shampoo and conditioner. They carry it at Walgreens.

Happy Wednesday:)

I like John Masters Organics. I use the lavender rosemary reconstructing shampoo (great for color-treated hair). But he has a honey & hibiscus shampoo that's awesome too. He's based out of SOHO NYC and I couldn't say enough good things about his product line. Check out his site www.johnmasters.com

have you tried Kerastase conditioner? I love it. But you can only find it at salons.

A woman of many colors! That's me too! :-)

I'm a fan of the Kerastase Nutritive line and Pureology but since I have long hair like you and wash it daily, it can get REALLY expensive! I just recently bought the Loreal EverPure Sulfate Free Shampoo & Conditioner (Eva Longoria is on the commercial) and LOVE it! Smells & feels like a high end shampoo to me. Good luck on your search!

I have no idea how great they are for the hair but I will have to now look at the ingredients.

I love Biolage by Matrix. It smells wonderful and the conditioner is very thick and moisturizing. I also really like Aveda products. They don't test on animals which is always a perk!

I LOVE your hair in the third picture.

Let me know when you find a non-damaging conditioning shampoo and condition because I have been on the hunt forever!

THANK YOU for all of these great recommendations! I will be checking out several of them and I'll let you all know what I think!

Having long hair that I highlight as well, I have the same issue. I've tried just about every brand from cheap to relatively expensive. Most healthy shampoos leave my hair like straw. GRITS posted about a sulfate free Loreal shampoo. I've been using it about a month or so and LOVE it still.

Oh, I agree with the Matrix Biolage. I forgot about it! I used it back in the day, since college. It was really moisturizing and smells divine. It kinda coats the hair which I like. I might have to give it a try again. I switch on and off and like to have a few options! ;-)

I love Aveda...

I use John Frieda Blonde and the Bliss Shampoo. I switch between the two. However, let us know what you decide on because I would love to treat my hair with lots of care!

Hey Petunia, I just tagged you!

i, I advise Aveda and also there is a brand called Phillip B. which is even better than Aveda. It is expensive though but your hair will look amazing after- I color my hair all of the time too and live in the sun so I need all the help I can get. :-)

I have been a Pureology fan for several years, but I just recently tried out the L'Oreal EverPure line that HappyDaily mentioned above. Love the new line! It's so much less than Pureology, and not a sulfate in site.

I also love the Neutrogena Triple Moisture deep recovery hair mask. It has olive oil, sweet almond oil, and meadowfoam seed oil. It is the best conditioning treatment I've ever used.
