I had heard a few months ago that Shabby Chic was closing a couple of their stores due to this awful economy, but I just found out that now ALL of the Shabby Chic stores will be closing! I am so sad about this!
I have always looked forward to the day that I could visit one of these gorgeous stores in person, but living in FL I have just never gotten around to it. I have all of the books and DVDs which are just chock full of beautiful images. So lovely.
The Shabby Chic line for Target will continue but while beautiful, it's just not the same. Sniff...
I would not say that my house is decorated in the "Shabby Chic" style but there are slight influences for sure. My overly floral decor days are over, although I still like the look when I see it in a cute cottage. Actually, come to think of it, all of my Shabby Chic sheets and pillow cases now reside in Lil P's room.
Have any of you been to a Shabby Chic store? Did you pick up any beautiful things?
Do you think it is totally due to the recession, or is the Shabby Chic "look" just not popular any more?

I think the Shabby Chic style is here to stay. It's really popular in Texas. I've been to the Shabby Chic store in Austin. It was located in the Domain (shopping center). I bought a Shabby Chic table linen, pillow cases, and a cute water pitcher. I'm sad to hear about the closing of the Shabby Chic chain but I know they have vendors all over the country. Check your e-mail and I'll send you the vendors for Florida. Hopefully you’ll locate one near you.
Has to be the economy cause you can take so many little ideas from the Shabby Chic look even if you don't want your entire house to be SC. xoxo
I've never been to a store but I love the white bed set. I'm currently searching for something similar for our master bedroom. I've talked my husband into white but I think too much floral would put him over the edge :)
Enjoy your weekend,
Jo
I was shabby chic obsessed for a while. I have all of the books too! My tastes have changed in the last few years, that and Husband was tired of living his life in muted pastels, so most of my stuff ended up at my mom's or in my daughters room also! I think that economy is the biggest factor for these stores to close.
This is a good question. Honestly, as much as I worship and adore Shabby Chic, I think it is the prices that became its downfall. Our boutique is closing too and plain mirrors are still well over $1000 with TONS of percentage off. I just don't think people can spend like that these days. Sad times. :(
I hope Shabby Chic isn't going out. It's so cute and I love it.
I visited the Shabby Chic store in Malibu and thought it was a little expensive. Maybe the economy is having an effect on their sales.
shut up! that is horrible and totally has to be recession related. just awful. what is not to love about white-painted wood furniture :(

I thought they were in trouble when they were offering 50% off this Christmas. I love shabby chic... I so went through that phase of all Shabby Chic. I totally agree with Muffy on the price points. Crazy Costly!!
