A good friend of mine recently lost her son, her only child, unexpectedly. She is having a very difficult time dealing with it, and I have been checking in on her and trying to help, but what can one do, what can one say?? I feel so helpless, there are no words... It is so sad. Today she sent me this e-mail:
Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.
BUT.........
Sisters are there,
no matter how much time and how
many miles are between you.
A girl friend is never farther away
than needing her can reach.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you
have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life
will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on,
praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on
your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the
valley's end.
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk
beside you...Or come in and carry you out.
Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters,
daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law,Mothers,
Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended
family, all bless our life!
The world wouldn't be the same without women, and
neither would I. When we began this adventure called
womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or
sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we
would need each other.
Every day, we need each other still.

I am so sorry to hear that. That is so sad. A great email though. So so true. I know someone who recently went through the same and she struggles everyday and I have no idea what to say.
what beautiful words
My heart goes out to your friend and to you for supporting her. Hugs from me!
That was beautiful. I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I can't imagine that kind of pain, but I am sure your love and support does help a lot.
My heart goes out to your friend. I too have a friend who recently and unexpectedly lost her only son, and it's an indescribable sadness. I'm sure it is a comfort to her to have friends like you right now.
I have tears in my eyes from your friend's situation. The thought of losing my only (child) son is so upsetting. I will send your friend extra good thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry. The poem about sisterhood is wonderful. I went to an all Women's college, and I can say that is true. Regardless of how much time has pasted we are still there for each other! Best, Becs
Thats lovely. What a horrible thing for your poor friend... Thats great you are there for her.
you are such a good friend to be there for her in such a way. I cannot even imagine how your poor friend is feeling. Your note was very caring and thoughtful during her difficult time.
what comforting words, sorry your friend is dealing with the loss of her only child! i can only imagine, how sad!!
I am so sorry, I can't even imagine how she feels. Thank God for girlfriends like you:) Be strong. But don't be afraid to cry with her.
My heart goes out to your friend.
