role model

I love(d) Jackie O. She was someone whose character and actions I try to emulate. Jackie Kennedy Onassis was graceful and elegant and always kind. It's hard to be like that all of the time.
Sometimes when I find a really great quote I put it over there ---> on my "quote of the day". Sometimes it becomes the quote of the "days" or "week". It's not because I haven't had the time to change it. Sometimes I find a really really good one that just speaks to me ... and I like to think about it for a few days. Ponder it. I think about the truthfulness of it and whether it applies to me or not (or whether it should apply to me).

Today's quote is thus: "The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong." ~Mahatma Gandhi

Forgiveness is a really hard thing sometimes. It is easier, I think, when "out of sight--out of mind" applies. But, sometimes the person whom you are trying to forgive is right there in front of you.  How easy is it to forgive??

Jackie endured many many difficult situations over the course of her life, some of which we know and others that are only the subject of myth or hearsay.  How did she overcome all of these trying situations?  Maybe she listened to Gandhi.  She definitely seemed to have some semblance of peace and tranquility about her.
Here are a few of my favorite snapshots of Jackie and her family:

Wow, I love your post about Jackie!! I agree it is easier to forgive when the person is not being shoved in your face or being called a wonderful role model! Michael Phelps is a role model, apologized for his mistakes and moved on, plus luckily his mistake only harmed himself. I agree that we need to look closer at the people we call role models. Why is that person a role model? Because the are physically fit? What about
Doctors, Policeman, and many other heroes who are the quiet role models for helping others and for saving lives. Not because they are physically fit?!? Off my soapbox now Best, Bec!!

I believe that you are so right about Jackie...she was a classy lady up and down and I don't think that anybody has ever even tried to come up with anything that would imply otherwise. She's a great role model. Jackie was the embodiment of a southern belle even though she was born "up yonder." LOL

I don't exactly know what you're struggling with just now but be strong.

I love this post.(and the pics!) Basically, she was a lady. Strong but refined. I strive for that kind of restraint. It's hard, for me, to hold back and forgive when it comes to someone hurting my children. I have a battle going on in my heart almost everyday over a teacher who bullied my son. And, yes, I had to hear almost everyday what an amazing and wonderful woman this teacher was from other people. I kept it in for several months until a final straw and I let my feelings about her out. Like I said, it's been a battle to be that strong lady who is above it all and forgives and the mother that holds a forever grudge on a cruel woman. But I'm working on it.
Thanks for this post. I hope all is well with you.

Very nice post and awesome pics! I love reading about jackie O. Heck.. I'm infatuated with all kinds of celebrities and pop culture from the 60's!

I'm kind of an Old School guy myself. I try and emulate my childhood idol Frank Sinatra. (The good stuf that is) Yeah he was a tough guy, but a gentlemen, and if he was your friend, he was in your corner no matter what. He and Dean martin helped breakdown racial barriers with Sammy Davis when most were just sitting on their hands.

The class and distinction certain people oozed in the 60's, is something that few people display nowadays. From what I can tell by reading your blog, you're one of those few girl!!

It's really hard to keep your dignity when someone is stabbing you in the back.

You are a strong woman, just like Jackie O.
